It is important because in China, every student has to take a computer science to graduate high school. In the U.S., 90 percent of schools do not even teach it. Here at Benton, we want to change that by introducing the students to the world of coding. The basics of coding helps to nurture our students creativity and problem-solving skills. We know that regardless of what our students do when they grow up, just knowing how to build technology will allow give them the confidence and know-how to succeed.
New computing jobs are growing 3 times faster than the number of computer science graduates. There will be 1 million more computing jobs than students over the next 10 years (adding up to $500 billion in salaries). More than 50 percent of all math and science jobs are for computer scientists. Computer science jobs are the highest-paying jobs for new graduates. Yet fewer than 3% of college students graduate with a degree in computer science. *All facts were obtained from www.hourofcode.org
